But Clinton and her State Department colleagues were “extremely careless” in handling classified information in a personal email system, says FBI Director James Comey.

The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said Tuesday that the bureau would not recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for her handling of classified information while she was secretary of state, lifting an enormous legal cloud from her presidential campaign less than two hours before she boarded Air Force One for her first joint campaign appearance with President Obama.

“In looking back at our investigation into the mishandling or removal of classified information, we cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges in these facts,” FBI Director James Comey said in a press conference Tuesday.
